Viscometers
A viscometer, is also known as a viscosity meter or rheometer. They are used to determine the viscosity (internal flow resistance) of a fluid. They can either measure shear viscosity, extensional viscosity, or both. Shear viscosity is how a fluid reacts to being sheared, while extensional viscosity has to do with how a fluid reacts to being stretched. Viscometers are commonly used in laboratories but you'll also find them assisting with quality control in factories, food production facilities, and more. They range in size; you'll find smaller hand-held, and portable units as well as larger bench-top units. Viscometers can either sample viscosity or provide continuous, real-time monitoring and logging of viscosity.
